Hair-ink making workshop (Waste Management)
It says, 'Thank you.'
42 SJSS Students and 10 Teachers visited RI (Y1-4) Science Hub to make human hair ink, a Waste Management project of RI. They were warmly welcome by Head Science 1, Mr Joseph Chong.
Two RI Student-Volunteer Representatives Lu Xuan Chun and Lee Hern Ee, who learnt Japanese as a Third Language at the MOE Language Centre, took turns to welcome SJSS to the workshop, in Japanese Language. Watch the videoclip of their presentation here.
A Year 1 Student-Volunteer Nicholas Ang made a presentation on how human hair was collected in the 2013 RI Hair for Hope Project, an annual event organised by Raffles Leadership Institute (Year 5-6) and turned into ink using appropriate chemical methods.
After his presentation, 4 Year 1 and one Year 2 Student-Volunteers proceeded to their assigned benches to guide SJSS Students to make hair ink and used it for calligraphy. The final products of that day were art pieces of SJSS. See the Photo Gallery on the right!
Do you know ink made from human hair is sticky when wet and non-sticky when dry?
(that explains the colours and sparkles you see in the photos above.)
